What Is the Avalanche Theory?
Your content naturally occupies a "tier" in the search results — a position range your site's authority allows. Content fighting above its tier gets knocked back by updates. Content dominating its tier survives.
The GSC 3-Month Spread Method:
- Export all queries from Google Search Console (last 3 months)
- Filter for queries with 10+ impressions
- Look at average position distribution
- Identify your natural clustering:
Tier 1: Positions 1-3 (you dominate these)
Tier 2: Positions 4-10 (you're competitive)

Step 1 — Identify the damage

Step 3 — Consolidate thin content
- Merge thin pages into existing stronger pages
